2022 Will Not Just Be a Republican Landslide, It Will Be the End of Democracy in America

Oh, and maybe the end of humanity as well

December 19, 2021 was a very bad day

On that chilly December morning, Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia went on Fox News to announce to the world that he would not support President Biden’s signature human infrastructure, climate change, and tax reform bill — the so-called Build Back Better plan. In so doing, he doomed the Democrats’ electoral chances in 2022, and probably his own political future as well.

Combined with his Party’s inability to protect our most basic Constitutional right — the right to vote — this latest humiliation and betrayal will cause many more Americans to turn against Democrats in the November midterms. In a nation where the playing field is already tipped unfairly in favor of Republicans, thanks to fervent GOP gerrymandering and voter suppression, this action by Manchin will turn a rout into a massacre, as voters are poised to abandon the feckless Democratic Party in disgust, swinging even previously safe seats into Republican hands.

If there is one thing all Americans agree on, it is that weakness is embarrassing and cannot be tolerated.

We can expect the 2022 midterms to be a bloodbath of epic proportions, at least equaling if not surpassing the Democratic wipeout in 2010, when Republicans gained 63 seats in the House and 7 seats in the Senate. But this will not be just another midterm that a losing Party can come back from, eventually.

This will be the midterm that cements permanent Republican majorities in both Houses of Congress, giving them the power base they need to finish unimpeded their grand project: the establishment of a minority-rule American government untethered by any concerns about electoral accountability.

As of December 19, 2021, the smart money is on American democracy going down, and going down hard.
